Kickstarter.com has a lot of interesting projects people want you to know about, and even invest in on the ground floor.
The inventor usually makes a nice explanatory video showing off their prototypes or describing a situation that needs "kickstarting" to encourage people around the world to invest in the idea's next stages of development. Backers who pledge money in advance are usually the first people able to receive production versions of the inventions, or the inventors can offer other rewards for backing their projects. Of course, if the project doesn't reach its funding goal, the backers are off the hook, and the project doesn't get to move forward. Some of those listed below have already met their goals, but their funding periods are still open for other people to get on board. Check 'em out! |
The Halfbike
This one not only exceeded its goal, but they are now in full production using a new design compared to the original shown in the video, which you can see on the website below. The first models are due for delivery to purchasers in December, 2015.

The Endless Computer
This one exceeded its funding goal of $100,000 and closed May 14, 2015. It's a clever idea to pair a smartphone processor with a TV to make an inexpensive home computer.

mBots
This project fully funded and closed May 14, 2015. These robots move and sense, and are controlled wirelessly with programs written in Scratch.

Offbits
This project is almost funded; just reached its $15,000 goal. Pledge collections ended May 21, 2015. The basic kit helps you create your own little robot-like toys from itself and parts you find around the house.

nScope
Project funding period ended June 1, 2015. It reached its $25,000 pledge goal, and I'm happy it did - I was one of its backers!

UDOO Neo IoT Board
Project funding period ended June 4, 2015. It collected pledges exceeding its goal by nearly $100,000! This is practically a complete computer and they want to sell it for $49! It's designed to connect to the Internet so you can control things, monitor things, and express things remotely.
